How I Manage a Household of 10 Kids Without Losing My Mind (Real Systems That Work)
Real Life With 8 Kids
Managing a household of 8 kids is not something you can just “wing.”
Between school schedules, meals, laundry, appointments, and everyday life — things can spiral quickly if there isn’t structure.
I’m a nurse, a wife, and a mom of 8 (including two sets of twins), and over time I’ve learned that survival depends on one thing:
👉 systems, not motivation
Because motivation comes and goes… but systems keep your home running no matter what kind of day you’re having.
If you’re overwhelmed, behind, or just trying to get your life together — this is exactly what works in my real home.
Why Most Moms Feel Overwhelmed
Before I created systems, I felt like:
- I was always behind
- Laundry was never done
- Meals felt stressful
- My brain never shut off
And that’s because everything lived in my head.
👉 That’s the problem.
When you’re managing everything mentally, you burn out FAST.
Everything Has a System (Not Just a Routine)
A routine says:
👉 “Do this at this time”
A system says:
👉 “This is how this gets done every time”
And systems are what changed my life.
In our home, we have systems for:
- Laundry
- Meals
- Cleaning
- School prep
- Bedtime
So instead of constantly deciding what to do…
👉 we just follow the system.
The Laundry System That Saved Me
Laundry is one of the biggest stress points in large families.
Here’s what I do:
- 1–2 loads per day (non-negotiable)
- Each child has their own basket
- Folding happens same day
- Kids help (age-appropriate tasks)
What I DON’T do:
- Let it pile up
- Wait for a “laundry day”
Because with a big family…
👉 there is no catching up once you fall behind
Simple Meals Only (No Complicated Cooking)
I stopped trying to cook “Pinterest meals” every day.
Instead, I focus on:
- filling meals
- affordable ingredients
- meals I KNOW my kids will eat
Some go-to meals:
- Spaghetti + garlic bread
- Chicken + rice + gravy
- Baked chicken + vegetables
- Crockpot meals
The goal is NOT perfection.
👉 The goal is consistency.
Weekly Reset Routine (This Is HUGE)
Every week, I reset the house.
This includes:
- Meal planning
- Grocery list
- Checking schedules
- Cleaning main areas
This one habit prevents chaos during the week.
If you take nothing else from this post…
👉 start doing a weekly reset
Daily “Non-Negotiables”
Instead of trying to clean everything…
I focus on a few daily tasks:
- Kitchen reset
- Laundry
- Quick pickup
That’s it.
This keeps things from getting overwhelming.
Let Go of Perfection
This one took time.
Your house will not always be perfect.
There will be:
- messy days
- loud days
- chaotic moments
And that’s normal.
👉 A lived-in home is not a failed home.

✨ Final Thoughts
If you’re raising kids — especially a big family — you don’t need to do more.
👉 You need better systems.
Start small. Pick ONE system to implement this week.
And build from there.
